AFL/Cricket Precinct

AFL/Cricket Precinct at Blacktown Olympic Park comprises:

  • 2 new ovals with the main oval having a capacity for 10,000 spectators and grandstand seating for 1600 with catering and function facilities.
  • Oval 1 is the same field size as the Melbourne Cricket Ground with Oval 2 the same size as the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG)
  • A 5 lane indoor cricket practice centre
  • A practice fielding area with 16 outdoor turf practice strips and 5 synthetic practice wickets
  • Mezzanine level with office space
  • Media Rooms
  • Coaches Rooms
  • Change Rooms & Toilets
  • Car parking
  • Function room overlooking Oval 1 with bar and commercial kitchen available for hire
  • Amenities for Oval 2 with Change rooms, amenities and meeting room
  • Ticket Booths and ticketing Office
  • Kiosk
  • 1,500 Lux Television broadcast quality stadium lights
  • Disabled access ramp and lift
  • 180 Car parking Spaces and an additional 180 overflow car parking spaces

What is the cost, how is it funded and how will it be operated?

  • Total cost of the project is $27.5m.
  • Capital funding from the State Government and Blacktown City Council.
  • The license has a term of 21 years for options for renewal.
  • Both AFL & Cricket will also contribute towards operating costs of the Precinct.
  • AFL and Cricket have each paid a premium towards securing a license to use the new precinct facilities. Both sports will make the venue their 'home' in Western Sydney and will host grass roots sport, development academies, elite pathways and high level games.
  • Blacktown City Council will own the new facilities and it will remain an asset for the Blacktown City Community.

Who designed and build the new facility?

  • Design Inc, who were the architects responsible for the Athletics Grandstand at Blacktown Olympic Park have designed the new facilities.
  • Builders Hooker Cockram, who have worked on a variety of projects including the Blacktown Olympic Park Athletics Grandstand and Stage II Development at Blacktown Leisure Centre Stanhope have brought the new facility to life.
