Blacktown Olympic Park has claimed the 2006 Fitness and Sport Award at the annual Blacktown Advocate Business Achiever Awards Dinner at Rooty Hill RSL on Tuesday, August 8.

The award recognises Blacktown Olympic Park's achievement in providing quality events and services that allow the community to experience sport at an elite and development level whilst enabling them to participate in a variety of activities and programs.

Developed as a significant playing venue for the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games , the world class softball, baseball and Athletics facilities have gone on to host a variety of international, national, state and regional sporting events.

These events have thrilled the crowds at the park whist community events such as the annual Blacktown City Family Sportsfest and the Blacktown City 'Super Sports' Clinics held each school holiday period that allow the community to utilise this great facility.

Blacktown City Council are due to construct new stadiums and sports fields in partnership with Cricket and AFL at Blacktown Olympic Park in the near future, complementing the existing softball, baseball and athletics facilities.

This will see Blacktown to continue to be a place to enjoy a healthy and active lifestyle while further establishing Blacktown Olympic Park as the home of sporting prowess and development in Western Sydney.

This award acknowledges Blacktown Olympic Park's outstanding commitment to ensuring that this world class venue continues to grow and develop as a great asset for the Blacktown Community" Mayor of Blacktown City, Councillor Leo Kelly, OAM said.
