  • 28/11/2007 Parramatta Eels 'Saving Goals' With The International Goalkeepers Academy

    A round ball, gloves and goal nets are not the normal equipment you would see at a Rugby League training session. This was the case last week when players from the Parramatta Eels National Rugby League Team joined the International Goalkeepers Academy at Blacktown Olympic Park for a training session with a difference! Players were put through their paces by International Goalkeepers Academy Director of Coaching and current Sydney FC Goalkeeping Coach, Jim Fraser.

    Athletes from across Australia will be sprinting into Blacktown Olympic Park for the inaugural Cadbury Schweppes Blacktown City ‘Christmas Gift’ – National Professional Athletic Carnival on Saturday 1st December 2007. The event, hosted by Blacktown Olympic Park in partnership with Blacktown City Council and the NSW Athletic League will see athletes invited from all over Australia to compete for over $30,000 prize money - making this event the richest Gift carnival in New South Wales! In addition to the action on the track there will also be a variety of fun activities for the family to enjoy including giveaways and rides with Westpoint Blacktown’s annual ‘Carols Under The Stars’ following the Blacktown City ‘Christmas Gift’ from 6pm.

  • 08/11/2007 LG Twins Make Blacktown Olympic Park Their 'Home Base'

    Korean Major League Baseball team, the LG Twins have made Blacktown Olympic Park their ‘Home Base’ for their Spring Training Camp. The team, who are based in Seoul, arrived at Blacktown Olympic Park on October 23 to begin their five-week camp which will utilise the parks first class baseball field and equipment. With Hawaii, Florida & South America popular destinations for Major League Teams off season training camps this camp marks the LG Twins sixth visit to Blacktown Olympic Park – making Blacktown Olympic Park’s baseball facilities one of the most sought after training camp venues for International teams.

    Learn to ‘kick a goal’ and ‘take a mark’ at the NAB AFL Auskick Centre at Blacktown Olympic Park in November. Open to girls and boys aged 5 -12 years, the clinics focus on teaching the skills of AFL in a safe and friendly environment. The one hour clinics kick off at 4pm on Friday afternoons from November 1.

  • 31/10/2007 Little Athletics Season Heats Up At Blacktown Olympic Park

    Little Athletics Centres from across the Blacktown Region will converge on Blacktown Olympic Park Athletics Precinct for the annual Blacktown City Relay Trophy on Sunday November 11. The event, supported by Blacktown Olympic Park and Blacktown City Council, was launched last year to commerate the opening of the new athletics grandstand.

    Former Wallaby International, Author, Journalist and Sports Guru Peter FitzSimons was the special guest speaker at the final Blacktown Olympic Park Sports Luncheon for 2007 held recently at Blacktown Olympic Park. The luncheon, proudly supported by Gold Sponsor Cadbury Schweppes and Silver Sponsor Nestle Peters, saw guests enjoy a sumptuous three course meal and beverages, whilst Peter related tales from his days as a first class Australian Rugby Union player and his thoughts on how the Wallabies can bring the World Cup back to Australian soil.

    Blacktown Olympic Park was a hive of sporting activity as it played host to the fourth annual Blacktown City ‘Family SportsFest’ on Saturday 25th August 2007, a fantastic fun filled afternoon for the whole family. The event was a huge success with 25 sporting associations and sporting venues displaying their services to over 2,000 members of the community at the sports spectacular that also featured Mega Inflatables, face painting, Featherdale Wildlife Park, AFL Interactive Kicking Machine and Major League Baseball Batting Cage.

    Hollywood Star Anthony La Paglia’s goalkeeping skills were put to the test in goal at his visit to the International Goalkeepers Academy at Blacktown Olympic Park last week. Led by former Socceroo and current Sydney FC Goalkeeping Coach Jim Fraser, the International Goalkeepers Academy offers a specialised training program that focuses on both the physical and mental demands of goalkeeping.
