A Touch Of Hollywood In Goal At BOP

Thursday, June 7, 2007

Hollywood Star Anthony La Paglia's goalkeeping skills were put to the test in goal at his visit to the International Goalkeepers Academy at Blacktown Olympic Park last week.

Led by former Socceroo and current Sydney FC Goalkeeping Coach Jim Fraser, the International Goalkeepers Academy offers a specialised training program that focuses on both the physical and mental demands of goalkeeping.

La Paglia, who plays Agent Jack Malone in the US Series 'Without A Trace', is an International Goalkeepers Academy Director who shares Fraser's passion for goalkeeping. A former goalkeeper for West Adelaide in the National Soccer League and goalkeeper for US Soccer club Hollywood Magic, La Paglia knows the demands of such a critical position.

"Many coaches and current football academies have limited or no experience in goalkeepers and typically their needs in the past have been neglected." says Fraser.

"It's more than just stopping a goal - Goalkeepers in the present day require new modern techniques, new types of equipment, physiotherapy expertise to provide special exercises to prevent injuries, and ongoing development of both physical and mental attributes." he adds.

This is where the academy steps in. Training is not just limited to standing between the posts and saving goals. With a staff of qualified coaches the Academy focuses on strength and conditioning training, nutrition and sports psychology.

The International Goalkeepers Academy runs sessions at Blacktown Olympic Park from Tuesday to Friday from 3pm. For more information please contact Blacktown Olympic Park on 9839 6591 or visit www.internationalgoalkeepers.com.au
