Parramatta Eels 'Saving Goals' With The International Goalkeepers Academy

Wednesday, November 28, 2007

A round ball, gloves and goal nets are not the normal equipment you would see at a Rugby League training session.

This was the case last week when players from the Parramatta Eels National Rugby League Team joined the International Goalkeepers Academy at Blacktown Olympic Park for a training session with a difference!

Players were put through their paces by International Goalkeepers Academy Director of Coaching and current Sydney FC Goalkeeping Coach, Jim Fraser.

Agility, co-ordination and accuracy drills formed a large part of the session before a game of modified football - complete with Rugby League rules!

The highlight of the session was the 'penalty shoot out' with stars such as Nathan Cayless, Brett Finch & Daniel Wagon putting their skills to the test between the goal posts.

International Goalkeepers Academy Director of Coaching Jim Fraser was impressed with the cross training session and the players abilities.

Fraser added, "For Goalkeepers it's more than just stopping a goal - Goalkeepers in the present day require new modern techniques, new types of equipment, cross training exercises & physiotherapy expertise to provide special exercises to prevent injuries, and ongoing development of both physical and mental attributes."

The International Goalkeepers Academy offers a specialised program for goalkeepers of all ages at Blacktown Olympic Park from 3pm Monday to Friday. For more information, contact Jim Fraser on 0407 728 862.
