Softball Gets Friendly at Blacktown Olympic Park

Tuesday, July 21, 2009

The Softball diamonds at Blacktown Olympic Park were very friendly this July with the Softball Australia International Friendship Series taking to the diamonds from July 12 to 17.

A record eighteen sides entered the 2009 Tournament, with teams from New Zealand, New South Wales Country and Metro, Queensland, ACT, Western Australia, South Australia and Australian Youth Development Sides participating in the competition.

In the Girl's division the two Australian Youth Development Teams, Australia Green and Australia Gold went head to head in the final on July 16. Strong pitching performances and dominating batting from Australia Gold kept their opponents scoreless, with Australia Gold claiming a convincing 4 to 0 victory.

NSW Metro claimed back to back tournaments in the Boys competition with a close 5 to 3 win over International rivals ISA NZ in the July 17 final. After getting away to an early 2 - 1 lead, ISA NZ looked to be in control but after both teams scored in the fourth innings, NSW metro added two unanswered runs in the seventh innings to claim their second consecutive friendship series title.
