2010 Relay for Life sure to be another success!

Thursday, March 25, 2010

Blacktown Olympic Park will once again proudly host the Blacktown City Cancer Council Relay for Life on October 30 - 31.

Relay for Life is an annual event where friends, family, community groups, schools and businesses enter a team to walk in relay around the athletics track over a 24 hour period. At least one person from each team should be on the walking track at all times - all to raise money in the fight against cancer. The event, which is open to people of all ages, focuses on remembering and celebrating the lives of those who have been touched by cancer, while raising funds for cancer research, education and support services.

The 2010 Relay for Life committee are already hard at work planning fundraising activities throughout the year. In 2009, the Blacktown Relay for Life was recognised as the most successful Relay to date, raising an amazing $165,000 and bringing the collective total over 7 years to more than $1million. A record breaking 82 teams entered in 2009 and over 400 new community members walked through the gates, making it the largest in NSW.

This year the Relay has adopted a 70's Disco Theme, with participants encouraged to dress up and decorate their campsites during the 24 hour fundraising event. So dust off those platform shoes, pull on those flares and get in the 'groove'!

Team registrations for the 2010 Relay for Life will open in April. Keep an eye out in your local papers for more information.
