Australia's Best Softballers Return to Blacktown Olympic Park

Don't miss the chance to see some of the world's best female softballers in action at Round 1 of the 2010/2011 Gilley's Shield Competition at Blacktown Olympic Park.

From November 19 - 21 teams from NSW, ACT, Queensland, South Australia, Victoria, Western Australia and New Zealand will make take to the diamonds at Blacktown Olympic Park. Reigning Champions, Queensland Heat, will put up some fierce competition as they compete to take out the title for another year.

"This year marks 10 years since Blacktown Olympic Park hosted the Softball competition for the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games. Council is proud that our partnership with the sport has continued and we are looking forward to all the action at the Gilley's Shield this weekend," Mayor of Blacktown City, Councillor Alan Pendleton said.

"Good luck to all players and officials and congratulations to the organisers. May the best team win", Mayor Pendleton continued.

Aussie Spirit Captain Stacey Porter will lead the NSW Firestars who boast fellow Australian representatives, Karina Cannon and Mel Roche. The Firestars will be looking to impress in front of what is sure to be a vocal home crowd.

Aussie Spirit stars back to compete for the pride of their state include Tracey Mosley (ACT Diamonds), Kylie Cronk (Queensland Heat), Justine Smethurst (Victoria Titans) and Chelsea Forkin (Western Australia Flames).

The four round competition will then move on to Victoria, Western Australia and Queensland.
