Blacktown City asks the World to ‘Come Play’

Blacktown waits in anticipation with the 2022 World Cup Announcement only one week away to see if Blacktown Olympic Park will become part of the biggest sporting event in the world.
Australia is up against four other countries in the 2022 bid including Qatar, South Korea, Japan and the United States. If successful in the bid, Blacktown Olympic Park has been named as one of 12 possible host venues along with stadiums in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide, Gold Coast, Newcastle, Canberra, Geelong and Townsville.
Blacktown Olympic Park is proposed as the venue for one of three new stadiums to be built and will see a 41,000 seat stadium built in the heart of sport in western Sydney.
The Park is no stranger to hosting large scale sporting events, being a host venue for the Olympic softball and baseball competition as well as an athletics training venue for the Sydney 2000 Olympics Games. The Sydney 2000 Olympic Games were marked as the best ever by the IOC and IPC Presidents and saw over 6.6 million tickets sold.
Mayor of Blacktown City, Councillor Alan Pendleton is eagerly awaiting the announcement that will mark the next chapter in Blacktown's rich sporting reputation.
"Australia has a reputation for hosting some of the world's best sporting events and the 2022 World Cup could be the icing on the cake," Mayor of Blacktown City, Councillor Alan Pendleton said.
"Not only will the World Cup bring enormous economic benefits to Blacktown City, but it will also showcase our tourist attractions to football enthusiasts from across the globe," Mayor Pendleton said.
"With an abundance of cultural and historical locations, leisure and recreation facilities, and entertainment venues, Blacktown's City is an ideal location to be a part of what is undoubtedly the largest sporting event in the world the ," Mayor Pendleton said.
The announcement will be made on December 2, so keep your fingers crossed that the world will come and play in Blacktown in 2022.
