Blacktown City Relay for Life this Weekend!
Thursday, October 21, 2010
Blacktown Olympic Park will once proudly host the Blacktown City Cancer Council Relay for Life this weekend on October 30 - 31.
Relay for Life is an annual event where friends, family, community groups, schools and businesses enter a team to walk in relay around the athletics track over a 24 hour period. At least one person from each team should be on the walking track at all times - all to raise money in the fight against cancer. The event, which is open to people of all ages, focuses on remembering and celebrating the lives of those who have been touched by cancer, while raising funds for cancer research, education and support services.
This year the Relay has adopted a 70's Disco Theme, with participants encouraged to dress up and decorate their campsites during the 24 hour fundraising event. So dust off those platform shoes, pull on those flares and get in the 'groove'!
The momentous Candlelight Ceremony will take place at 8pm and be accompanied by the unveiling of the Relay for Life Rose Garden at the Blacktown Olympic Park Athletics Centre. Deputy Mayor, Councillor Kathie Collins, will unveil the garden which has been established to recgonise and honor all those who have been touched by cancer in Blacktown City.
