Lend Lease Breakers out to stretch lead against WA

Tuesday, November 23, 2010

The Lend Lease Breakers play Western Australia in Sydney this weekend with the competition front runners looking to extend their lead on both the Women's National Cricket League Twenty20 and 50 over competition ladders.

NSW and Western Australia play two Twenty20 matches at Blacktown Olympic Park on Friday (November 26, 3pm) and Sunday (November 28, 10am), with the 50 over match at the SCG on Saturday (November 27, 10am).

This is the first time the Lend Lease Breakers have played at Blacktown Olympic Park, following on from the RTA SpeedBlitz Blues' debut at the venue at the end of October.

The Lend Lease Breakers currently hold a five point lead in the Twenty20 competition thanks to two big victories over second placed Victoria in Melbourne a fortnight ago.

After big bonus point wins over Tasmania and Queensland in the opening two rounds, NSW's 50 over clash against the Vics was washed out meaning that they now only hold top spot on that ladder by three points, with the ACT second.

Lend Lease Breakers Head Coach, Neil McDonald, said the challenge for the team was to maintain the intensity and standards achieved against Victoria this weekend against Western Australia.

"Two excellent wins over the Twenty20 champions (Victoria) could count for nothing if we do not perform to our best and drop points against Western Australia. We expect them to be desperate given that a loss may end their season. They have a competitive team that doesn't always deliver - our job is to make sure that they don't!" he said.

NSW selectors have named an unchanged squad for the first time this summer, with the same 13 picked to play in Melbourne two weeks ago backing up this weekend.

The full Lend Lease Breakers squad to play Western Australia is (clubs/regions in brackets):

Alex Blackwell (captain - Universities/Riverina)
Erin Osborne (vice?captain - St George?Sutherland/Central North)
Sarah Aley (Bankstown)
Sarah Coyte (Campbelltown?Camden)
Nicole Goodwin (Sydney/Newcastle)
Alyssa Healy (Sydney)
Claire Koski (Campbelltown?Camden)
Sharon Millanta (Bankstown)
Ellyse Perry (Sydney)
Leah Poulton (St George?Sutherland/Newcastle)
Angela Reakes (Sydney/North Coast)
Lisa Sthalekar (Gordon)
Kara Sutherland (Campbelltown?Camden/North Coast)

The Lend Lease Breakers have a very impressive record against Western Australia. They have met on 30 occasions since the inception of the WNCL in 1996/97, with NSW winning 29 times and Western Australia just the once. They have played only twice in Twenty20 cricket with NSW winning both matches.
