Relay for Life ‘Swings’ Above Expectations!

Thursday, May 20, 2010

The first major Relay for Life fundraising event for 2010 was a huge success with over 100 participants turning out for the annual 'Relay for Life Golf Day' at Ashlar Golf Club, Blacktown on Friday May 14.

Over $14,000 was raised at the event with fundraising efforts bolstered by Sargents with the announcement that they will donate a $100,000 cheque to this worthy community event.

"Sargents' donation of $100,000 is simply outstanding! It is fantastic to see businesses getting behind the community and contributing to a well deserved cause," said Councillor Charlie Lowles, Mayor of Blacktown City.

The 2010 Blacktown City Relay for Life will take place on October 30 and 31 at Blacktown Olympic Park (Eastern Road, Rooty Hill). Residents, community groups, businesses and schools are encouraged to become a part of this community fundraising event. Billed as a 'Team Event to Fight Cancer', the Relay will involve teams of 10 to 15 people taking turns to walk laps around the athletics track over a 24 hour period. Relay for Life is an overnight event - enabling walkers to come and go as they please, or pitch a tent next to the track and stay the night.

Given the wonderful generosity of the Sargents donation the target for this year's Relay for Life has been raised to $250,000 and the Relay for Life Committee is hard at work planning community events to help fundraise in the fight against cancer. Keep an eye out in your local paper or visit www.blacktownolympicpark.com.au for more fundraising activities happening throughout the year.

Registrations for the 2010 Relay for Life are now open so it's time to get your team together and register by visiting www.relayforlife.com.au/nsw or call 9687 1399.
