One of the oldest and fiercest rivalries in cricket comes to Blacktown Olympic Park this summer when the RTA SpeedBlitz Blues take on the XXXX Gold Queensland Bulls in the Weet-Bix Sheffield Shield clash from December 18 to 21.

From 11am - 6pm each day, NSW and Queensland will take to the Blacktown Olympic Park wicket in what is Australia's premier domestic cricket competition

The annual Sheffield Shield see's Australia's six state teams compete in a round-robin style series with four day matches and the top two teams playing a five day final. The rounds prior to Christmas are always vital with teams looking to claim any advantage possible before the competition breaks for the KFC Twenty20 Big Bash.

"Summer is an exciting time at Blacktown Olympic Park, with a range of competitions across a variety of sports taking place, and we are excited to be hosting the Sheffield Shield match - the perfect way to showcase Blacktown's first-class venue next weekend," Mayor of Blacktown City, Councillor Alan Pendleton said.

"Good luck to all players and officials and congratulations to the organisers. May the best team win and may a big Blacktown crowd enjoy the cricket," said Mayor Pendleton.

This is not the first time Blacktown Olympic Park has hosted first class matches with the RTA SpeedBlitz Blues taking on Sri Lanka at the venue in October and more recently the Women's National Cricket League and Under 15 National Championships in November.

Admission to the Sheffield Shield Match is free so bring along the family and enjoy the outstanding cricket on display at Blacktown Olympic Park.
