Friday, May 13, 2011

School students from across the state will get a taste of life as an AFL player when they travel to Sydney to take part in the NSW PSSA Carnival at Blacktown Olympic Park from May 17 to 19.

The statewide competition is the biggest primary school based sports carnival run by the PSSA, bringing over 300 students to Sydney for the very first time.

Over the course of the year schools have played one another in weekly PSSA matches in their respective regions. The best players have been chosen to represent their area at the state carnival and have the added excitement of playing at the home of the Greater Western Sydney Giants.

"Blacktown City is pleased to host the AFL PSSA Carnival for the second consecutive year at Blacktown Olympic Park's first class AFL/Cricket Centre," Mayor of Blacktown, Councillor Alan Pendleton said.

"The competition gives a great opportunity for those outside our City to experience Blacktown's first class sporting facilities and what truly makes us a sporting city. With families travelling from 13 different regions the local economy is also set to benefit, making it a positive on all accounts," said Mayor Pendleton.

Teams include those from the Sydney Metropolitan, North and South Coast, Central West and Riverina regions of the State.

The Sydney West Team includes promising AFL stars from Baulkham Hills North, Castle Hill, Crestwood, Doonside, Glenbrook, Glenhaven, Kellyville Ridge, Kings Langley, Marayong, Northmead, North Rocks, Oatlands, Quakers Hill East, Samuel Gilbert, Schofields, St Clair, St Marys North, Toongabbie and Toongabbie West Public Schools.
