NSW Claim Back to Back National Championships

New South Wales have claimed back to back Under 19 Women's National Championship titles with an impressive win over the ACT in the Grand Final at Blacktown Olympic Park on Saturday 22 January.

NSW were off to an early 3 - 0 lead after some impressive batting in the first innings. Georgia Casey was cracking a long drive to the fence batting in leadoff batter Jessica Meyer. Casey was eventually brought home by Hannah Deen, with the third run of the innings coming from Rachael Sechi scoring Aimee Palmer.

ACT managed to keep NSW off the scoreboard until the 6th innings but ACT could not stop the runs as New South Wales stacked on four runs to claim the title for the second consecutive year 7-0.

New South Wales pitcher Georgia Casey pitched a near perfect game only going for one hit, to help her team to victory and to also claim the Pitching Award for the Championship.

Casey's New South Wales teammate Jessica Meyer received the Championship's Batting Award with Victoria's Marina Walker named Most Valuable Player of the Championship.

Mayor of Blacktown City, Councillor Alan Pendleton presented NSW Captain Hannah Deen with the Elinor McKenzie Shield and thanked teams for an exciting week of competition.

'Blacktown City Council continues to be proud and delighted to support Softball in Australia through the provision of first class facilities at Blacktown Olympic Park. We look forward to hosting many more National championships over the coming years', said Mayor of Blacktown City, Councillor Alan Pendleton.

Players will now eagerly the announcement of the Australian Under 19 World Championship squad which will be made through the Softball Australia Website on Tuesday 25th January.

New South Wales will hope to have strong representation in the Australian team that will travel to South Africa later this year.
