PREMIERSHIP AFL FOOTBALL COMES TO BLACKTOWN IN 2012

Friday, October 28, 2011

Premiership AFL will come to Blacktown in 2012 with the AFL today announcing Blacktown International Sportspark Sydney will host the Round 3 Premiership Match between the Greater Western Sydney GIANTS and the West Coast Eagles.

The match will be held on Sunday April 15 at 1.10pm, providing the thousands of AFL fans throughout the region the opportunity to experience premiership football at the Home of the GWS GIANTS.

Mayor of Blacktown City, Councillor Alan Pendleton has welcomed the news.

"I congratulate the AFL on ensuring that the people of Blacktown City and the wider Western Sydney region will have the opportunity to be part of history as Blacktown hosts its first AFL Premiership match, in what I'm sure will be the first of many"

"I encourage all members of the Blacktown community to show their support for Western Sydney's very own team, the GWS GIANTS, when they take to the field at Blacktown International Sportspark Sydney", Mayor Pendleton added.

The GWS GIANTS will be eager to make their mark in their first premiership season; while the West Coast Eagles will be looking to replicate the form that saw them through to the semi-finals in 2011.

The announcement comes on the back of the release of the 2012 AFL Pre Season NAB Cup competition fixtures which reveal that the GWS GIANTS will take on 2010 Premiers Collingwood and the Western Bulldogs at Blacktown International Sportspark Sydney on February 18.

Information regarding tickets for both matches at Blacktown International Sportspark Sydney is expected to be released later this year.
