Rain hampers opening rounds of Winter Masters League
Tuesday, May 31, 2011
The Baseball NSW Winter Masters League began on Monday, May 22 when the Division 1 competition got things underway at Blacktown Olympic Park.
After an eight week holiday the over 35's were looking to get back on the diamond and play some baseball after the summer competition concluded in March.
The Division 3 champions, Rangers Baseball Club have returned and they have moved up to Division 2 to see if they can grab another title after their tight 6 - 5 victory over the Kellyville Chiefs in the Division 3 Grand Final in March.
The 2011 winter season sees the addition of two new teams; Liverpool Angels who have expanded and have added a Division 1 team to there already existent Division 3 team.
The Incas from Ryde Eastwood have also added another team to their repertoire now fielding teams in Division 2 and Division 3.
The opening two rounds have been rain affected, with only Division 1 completing their opening round on the opening night on Monday May 22. Division 2 and 3 have yet to take the field for the winter competition as they wait for the miserable Sydney weather to pass so they can get a game.
The winter league will run to the last weekend of August where the next Masters League champions will be crowned in all three divisions.
