See the State's Finest Junior AFL Footballers in Action
Monday, September 5, 2011
Blacktown International Sportspark Sydney will host the best up and coming primary school AFL players at the Paul Kelly Cup State Finals on 6 & 7 September.
Boasting over 15,000 participants across 950 teams of students in Year 5 and 6, the Paul Kelly Cup is one of the largest primary schools based competitions in Australia.
The Paul Kelly Cup consists of 12-a-side teams competing in round robin carnivals with modified rules, allowing children who are new to the game to experience and enjoy Australian football in a safe and fun environment.
"I am pleased to once again welcome the participants of the Paul Kelly Cup to Blacktown City for the finals of this fantastic competition and hope they enjoy the fantastic AFL facilities at Blacktown International Sportspark Sydney - home to the GWS GIANTS." Said Mayor of Blacktown City, Councillor Alan Pendleton.
"A special congratulations to our local teams from Kellyville Ridge and Kings Langley Primary Schools who have done extremely well to make the finals of this year's competition." added Councillor Pendleton.
Having played their way through a number of knockout matches in their state-based region already this year, the best 24 boys teams and 15 girls teams will battle it out for the 2011 title over two days of competition at Blacktown International Sportspark Sydney.
To make the journey even more special for all budding AFL juniors is the fact they'll get to meet a legend of the game, former Sydney Swans player Michael O'Loughlin, who will be on deck to offer advice to the kids and present the winning boys team with the trophy.
This year's event also marks the second time a girls competition has been part of the Paul Kelly Cup and Kings Langley will look to make it back to back wins.
In the Boys competition, reigning champions Mater Dei College Wagga will chase their third consecutive Paul Kelly Cup title.
The opening day of the Paul Kelly Cup State Finals on Tuesday 6 September will see the girls battle it out for the 2011 title, with the boy's teams going head to head on Wednesday 7 September.
