Softball Youth at Their Best

Friday, June 24, 2011

Softball's most talented young players make their way to Blacktown International Sportspark, formerly Blacktown Olympic Park, from 4 to 8 July for the Softball Australia International Youth Cup.

The Youth Cup, formerly known as the International Friendship Series sees teams from across Australia and New Zealand go head to head to claim the inaugural title.

Played over 69 games and 5 days, the competition provides a great platform for skills development and an opportunity for scouts to identify any young up and coming talented players.

"Blacktown International Sportspark Sydney has been a long time supporter of events such as these which create a fantastic development pathway for young players," said Mayor of Blacktown City, Councillor Alan Pendleton.

Boys teams competing are the Australian Under 17 Boys, NSW Country Boys, Australian Under 19 Green, Australian Under 19 Gold, NSW Metro Boys and from New Zealand, Western Civil, ISA New Zealand and the Junior Boys Development Team.

The Girls competition includes the Queensland Sunstate Wanderers, SE Metro Victoria, NSW Country Girls, Australian Under 17 Girls, NZ Junior Girls Development, School Sport Australia and NSW Metro Girls teams.

"It gives me great pleasure to witness international teams travelling to what is one of the world's finest softball venues, right in the heart of sport in Western Sydney. I wish all players the best of luck and may the best team win," Mayor Pendleton said.

Competition gets underway from 10am on Monday 4 July with the girls and boys finals taking place on Friday 8 July at 11.30am and 1.30pm respectively.
