Under 19 National Softball Championships

The Under 19 Women's National Softball Championship will make their way to Blacktown Olympic Park from January 16 to 22.


The competition is sure to be intense with players from each state vying for a place in the Australian 2011 World Championship team.


A number of NSW players who have already been selected for the team include Hannah Deen (Cronulla), Rhianne Kerr (Emu Plains), Georgia Casey (Stanhope Gardens), Megan Horne (Wahroonga), Ellen Roberts (Westleigh), Rachael Sechi (St Ives), Linley Somerville (Manly Vale), Taylah Tsitsikronis (Silverdale) and Lana Tye (St Clair), and will be showing their talent as they warm up for the World Championships later this year in South Africa.


Georgia Casey (Stanhope Gardens) has also been selected for the Australian World Championship team and is sure to provide some tough competition for other states, already having been targeted by several US College scouts.


Georgia is also in the NSW Open Women's Team and will return to Blacktown Olympic Park for the Under 19 Women's Nationals after competing in the Softball Gilley's Shield and a test series against New Zealand in Perth just weeks before.


Mayor of Blacktown City, Councilor Alan Pendleton will officially welcome the teams to Blacktown Olympic Park and Blacktown City at the opening ceremony on January 15, marking the occasion with a spectacular fireworks display.


"I am delighted the Under 19 National Championships is making its way to Blacktown City for the first time," said = Mayor of Blacktown City, Councillor Alan Pendleton.


"Council has an ongoing commitment to sport in Blacktown City and Blacktown Olympic Park's world class facilities are a great way to showcase some fantastic local, regional and national talent".


"I wish all teams the best of luck and congratulate the event organisers. May the best team win," said Mayor Pendleton.


Competition commences each day from 11am with the finals being held on Saturday, January22 from 10.30am. Entry prices are below:
