Will you be striking out against cancer on Sunday?

Tuesday, October 18, 2011

When over 300 players and officials join together on Sunday 23 October at Blacktown International Sportspark, the home of Softball NSW to strike out against cancer, will you be there to show your support?

The countdown is on to what will be a memorable day on the softball calendar when participants from as young as nine years old playing TBall take centre stage alongside the State League teams to raise awareness and money for the National Breast Cancer Foundation and Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia.

At the centre of the celebrations will be the Women's State League Finals Series where Northern Storm, Manly Eagles, Sutherland Sharks and Hills go head-to-head for the title, with the Grand Final getting underway from 3pm.

TBall teams will also take to the diamonds from 9am to showcase their skills and take part in a new and exciting initiative, the Twenty20 TBall Challenge.

There will be plenty to see and do, not to mention numerous opportunities for supporters to get involved and assist with the fundraising efforts by purchasing the merchandise on sale, participating in the raffle, or tasting the delights from the different food outlets on site.

SNSW State League Operations Committee Chairperson Selwyn Williams is encouraged by the support the initiative has already received.

"The response has been overwhelming. I would like to thank the Associations and teams that have assisted with the fundraising efforts - your support will ensure that it will be a wonderful day," Williams said.

"Teams have been encouraged to wear pink and blue sweatbands to compliment their playing uniforms in support of the day, and I know that the umpires will once again be showing their support.

"From the Women's State League Finals, Men's State League, Home Run Derby, Twenty20 TBall Challenge and lots of great entertainment, I am sure that there will be something for everyone so I encourage you to bring your friends and enjoy a great day at softball."

With Blacktown International Sportspark set to turn pink and blue for the day in support of the initiative; family, friends, softballers and sport-lovers are encouraged to join in the festivities as Softball NSW aims to strike out in support of breast cancer and prostate cancer.

Join us and strike out for cancer on Sunday 23 October. Your support can and will make a difference.
