Phil Jaques to captain strong Futures League team

Friday, February 3, 2012

NSW SpeedBlitz Blues opening batsman Phil Jaques will lead a strong Futures League side in their four-day fixture against the ACT, starting on Monday at Blacktown International Sportspark.

Jaques, who will retire from First class cricket in Australia at the end of the season, captains a team with 7 players who have represented New South Wales at First class or List A level, alongside David Dawson who has played First class cricket with Tasmania.

A very strong batting line-up will see Jaques, Nic Maddinson, Tim Cruickshank, Scott Henry and David Dawson form the nucleus, while pace will come in the shape of Timm Van Der Gugten and Sean Abbott.

There is also some new talent on show in the form of James Munting, Chris Tremain and Tristen McDonald. All three are on Futures League debut.

Munting (left-arm) and Tremain (right-arm) are both quick bowlers. Munting, who plays with Manly, has already picked up 26 First Grade wickets this season, while Tremain has 24 scalps for the University of NSW.

McDonald, a left-handed opener with the Northern District club, is the 2nd leading run-scorer in First Grade with 599 runs at the average of 39.93.
