Diamonds are a girl's best friend this January at Blacktown Olympic Park with Australia's best female softballers taking to the Blacktown Olympic Park softball diamonds for the 2008 Open Women's Australian Fastpitch Championship from January 6 - 12
Reigning Open Women's Premiers Queensland will go head to head with New South Wales, South Australia, Western Australia, Victoria, ACT to retain the Gilley's Shield aiming for their third consecutive title. The competition will be fierce with players looking to impress selectors in the lead up to the Beijing Olympic Games later in the year.
Boasting both Olympians and World Championship players, the New South Wales Women are confident that they will perform well in front of what will be a vocal home crowd.
The New South Wales Women's team comprises the best softball talent in the state with Kyria Cox, Kelly Gentle, Renee Gloss Tatiana Holodnow, Danica Howlett, Zara Mee, Simone Morrow, Ashlee Pobjie, Stacey Porter, Belinda Summerville, Kym Turnell, Natalie Ward, Felicity Witt, Belinda Wright, Kerry Wyborn and Rachel Zucchetti.
Games commence at 11 am daily with children under 16 admitted free. 'Finals Fever' kicks off on Saturday January 12 with the Finals at 3pm followed by the Grand Final at 7pm.
