Fun Runs Race into BOP
Monday, May 26, 2008
It was a fresh and early start for the 550 competitors in the 2008 Blacktown City Fun Run and Community Walk at Blacktown Olympic Park on Sunday 25th May.
Starting at the Athletics Track, competitors were taken on a scenic journey around Blacktown Olympic Park and surrounding areas in the 4km, 10km and Walk events.
Young and old participated with the oldest registered competitor over 70 years of age, with the youngest participants lying back and enjoying it as Mum's & Dad's pushed them round in their prams.
Thanks to a state of the art new time recording system, each competitor was issued with an ankle bracelet so their time could be accurately recorded. The fastest runner over the 10km course was Michael Harrison from North Rocks clocking in at just over 33 minutes with his brother James taking out the 4km title with a time of 13 minutes and 40 seconds.
The female competitors were hot on their heels with Belinda Martin of Sylvania crossing the 10km line after 39 minutes and 31 seconds and Amanda Hilditch of Castle Hill winning the 4km run with a time just over 16 minutes. A full list of results can be found at www.blacktowncityfunrun.com.au.
Blacktown Olympic Park will also play host once again to the climax of the M7 Westlink Cities Marathon on Sunday 27th July 2008. The starters gun will mark the beginning of this unique marathon at Ash Road Sports Field in Prestons and will take competitors along the M7 Motorway before finishing at Blacktown Olympic Park Athletics Precinct.
