Goalies Living the Dream at BOP

Tuesday, May 13, 2008

Goalkeepers are a special breed of sports fanatics. They are not afraid to stand their ground while balls fly towards them from every angle.

The International Goalkeepers Academy at Blacktown Olympic Park is a haven for these soccer players and from 21st to 23rd April 2008, over 70 boys and girls joined the academy for a training camp.

One of these goalies was 13 year-old Christopher from Eastwood. In preparation for his school trials, Chris joined the 3 day camp to get the upper hand on his competition.

"The academy is awesome! My favourite part was learning how to fall in the mud" said Chris on his final day at the camp.

Another man who's love lies between the posts is former International and current Sydney FC goalkeeper coach Jim Fraser. During his professional playing career, Jim saw that there was something missing for developing keepers and so, he set out to create and is the director of the International Goalkeepers Academy.

Jim led the training camp which had the goalies working on their diving, punching, kicking and falling skills as well as working on their fitness and strength in the gym.

Goalies looking to improve their skills can train at the International Goalkeepers Academy at Blacktown Olympic Park from Monday to Friday from 3pm. For more information visit www.internationalgoalkeepers.com.au or contact 9675 2963.
