NSW Heat up the Diamond

Wednesday, May 14, 2008

The New South Wales State All School Team have gone through undefeated to claim the Australian All Schools Girls Softball Championship at Blacktown Olympic Park.

The opening ceremony saw New South Wales, ACT, Western Australia, Queensland, South Australia and Victoria welcomed onto the diamond by the Australian Olympic Team who are using Blacktown Olympic Park's world class softball diamonds for their training in the lead up to the Beijing Olympic Games.

From the first ball of the championship on Sunday 4th May, NSW dominated, scoring a total of 92 throughout the championship with no runs scored against them.

In the final, NSW scored twice in the first innings and were too good for their opponents Queensland who were unable to get a run on the board. Kara Murphy and Simone Freeman took the two runs for NSW and both were subsequently named for the Australian All Schools Team.

Joining them in the team in the Australian All Schools Team are: Ashleigh Eldridge (ACT), Cassie Cottrell (WA), Janiene Smith (QLD), Jessica Hollett (VIC), Kaia Parnaby (NSW), Kathering McVeity (NSW), Kimberly Quince (VIC), Michelle Coz (NSW), Rebecca Crosby (WA), Sally Ward (NSW), Stacey Johns (WA) and Stephanie Harm (QLD).

The team will play in the National Friendship Series at Blacktown Olympic Park in July this year.
