Sports Spectacular - Celebrate the Opening of the New AFL/Cricket Precinct
Thursday, August 6, 2009
Celebrate the official opening of the brand new AFL/Cricket Precinct at Blacktown Olympic Park in style with a 'Sporting Spectacular' taking to the venue on Saturday 22nd August 2009.
Boasting two first class AFL/Cricket Ovals, with the main oval having a capacity for 10,000 spectators with grandstand seating for 1500, catering and function facilities, an indoor cricket practice centre and a practice fielding area the new AFL/Cricket Precinct complements the Blacktown Olympic Park's existing high quality softball, baseball, athletics and goalkeeping facilities.
The celebrations commence at 1pm with the annual Blacktown City 'Family SportsFest'. Come & try a variety of FREE interactive activities from just about every sport you can think of including Aussie Rules, Baseball, Cricket, Fencing, Golf, Goalkeeping, Karate, OzTag, Rugby League, Skating, Soccer, Softball, Squash and Tennis. Discover Blacktown City's great sporting and leisure venues with displays from Blacktown Olympic Park, Blacktown Leisure Centre Stanhope, Blacktown Aquatic Centre and Emerton Leisure Centre.
Youngsters can 'kick to kick' with Tony 'Plugger' Lockett at the AFL Clinic from 2pm, with NSW RTA Speed Blitz Blues Cricketers Dominic Thorley, Usman Khawaja and Ben Rohrer will put your 'leg spin' and batting to the test from 2.30pm.
Try your luck and go in the draw for a chance to win a signed Sydney Swans Jersey or signed RTA Speed Blitz Blues Cricket Bat.
With loads of giveaways, face painting and mega inflatables for the kids, the Blacktown City 'Family SportsFest' is guaranteed to provide an exciting, energising and fun-filled afternoon for the young - and the young at heart!
But the celebrations don't end there!
The sporting action then takes to the field for the Official Opening game where Pennant Hills AFL Club and Western Suburbs AFL Club will go head to head in the inaugural Blacktown City Mayoral Shield from 6.30pm. Entry to the game is Free.
Do not miss this opportunity to be part of sporting history!
